Softball

Lorelai has started softball for the very first time!  It's tough because some people have been playing for a few years already and she's brand new, but she's doing awesome!  She's had two games so far and she hasn't struck out yet.  Below are two videos of her hitting.  She was safe in one, and barely thrown out in the other.  Her best hit, of course, I failed to get on video because I was too excited.  She also walked once.  We have two more games this week so we will see how it goes!

That’s gotta hurt...

Scarlet had a run-in with a bar stool.  She wasn't fooling around or doing anything wrong, just trying to climb up on the stool to watch me make dinner.  Well, the stool tipped back, fell on top of her, and cracked her forehead open.  It was split open pretty deep.  Common sense says DON'T take her to an ER where someone pressed for time has the opportunity to scar her sweet face.  No, this is a job for DADDY!  How lucky we are!  We all went down to Joe's office where he could use his loops (magnifying glasses) and take all the time he needs to make it just perfect.  She cried the stool fell on her, and she was scared on the way to the clinic, but she didn't cry at ALL when she was being stitched or numbed up.  What a trooper!  I honestly think, girly as she is, she may be the bravest of the kids.

On our way to the clinic.  She's not hurting now, just really scared

It may not look that bad in this picture but once Joe assessed the damage with his loops we saw that she opened it up all the way down to bone!  She had to have some deep stitches to close everything up and then Joe was meticulous in bringing the edges together to make the least noticeable scar.

We asked Scarlet what she wanted for being such a good patient....chocolate frosties and chicken nuggets it is!

Bubble Machine

The new bubble machine is a hit!  The wind was strong today and blew the bubbles all over the yard.  This should tire them out!  Kids these days...they're so soft...can't even blow their own bubbles!

Daddy’s Birthday!

We celebrated Daddy's Birthday on April 6th.  It was a Tuesday and he had to work so when he got home we tried to make it extra special for him.  The kids worked hard on a handprint art card for him.  We've done these 4 years in a row now and they're always pretty cute.  Mom loves to make cakes, but Daddy requested a homemade peach pie instead!  Dad's favorite dinner is prime rib, but we just had that for Easter so we wanted to surprise him with something new and fun!  FONDUE!  Homemade by Mom.  The kids enjoyed eating with skewers.... it was great and Dad felt special.

Mom's very first peach pie.  YUM!

We had a Cheddar/Swiss fondue and dippers included: bacon sausage, French bread, sourdough bread, pretzel bites, apples, pears, roasted potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and roasted mushrooms!

Our Easter

It was a nice, relaxing Easter. The kids got up early and explored their Easter baskets.  We like to have our egg hunt outside so we kept the shades drawn and told them "No peeking!"  Really at about 10:30am Joe kept them busy and I ran out to hide the eggs so the chocolate wouldn't be melty.  One of Scarlet's basket items was a Gazillion Bubbles machine so the kids enjoyed that in the afternoon too.

Video below...

Happy Easter from all the Dai kids!

A gazillion bubbles everywhere!

prime rib for dinner....yes please!

Lent is over and after 40 LONG days, Evelyn is enjoying chocolate again.  She deserves every bit of this chocolate bunny!  We are so proud of her committment.

Easter Egg Hunt

Time to hunt for some eggs! I kind of failed in the picture department this year during the hunt.  The kids just ran...scattered....the dog went nuts running around...it was a wonderful chaos.  They had such a great time and found EVERY egg!  Maybe the bunny has to do a better job at hiding next year.  The kids enjoyed the new yard to hunt in...new hiding spots! And yes, we still had a little snow on the ground.  We also played a game during the hunt called "That's not an egg, that's bear poop!"

Here's the breakdown.  We had 160 eggs total.  There were 3 golden eggs ($5 in each), 12 metallic eggs ($1 in each) and 20 glitter eggs ($0.50 in each).  The rest had candy in them.

Results:

Lorelai  $17, Evelyn $12, Scarlet $5, and Joseph $3 which is quite surprising because in past years it always seemed that the younger kids got more money than the older kids!

Peeps!

Because my sister hates me....she purchased 4 of these kits.  The worst part is the project is too hard for the kids to really do on their own.  Which means I have to help....times four!  The kids loved it though, so that's all that matters.  Future reference...don't buy this for my kids...

Lorelai actually did pretty good on her own

As you can see, Scarlet is having trouble waiting her turn

Joseph mostly enjoyed eating them

Aren't they beautiful?
