This is Emerald...or "Em" or "Emma" for short. She flew into our big window and was struggling a bit. After trying to release her we have discovered that her wing is broken. Right now she is in Lorelai's bug catcher, resting and rehabilitating. We've laid down mulch for bedding and tons of different kinds of flowers and soft leaves. Next, we made some hummingbird sugar water nectar for the short term. She feeds through a little syringe. Apparently, hummingbirds eat 5-8x/hr! I so need this in my life right now. We are doing a lot of research and getting creative and just hoping for the best. Lorelai is diligent with the syringe and feeds her often. She rarely leaves Emerald's side. Emerald is trusting Lorelai more and will even now perch on her finger! This is a good lesson for the kids...I hope it's not a hard one.
The day after we rescued her we went to the pet store to get her a bigger habitat. She has a little more room now...
