At 2 months old Joseph was diagnosed with plagiocephaly. Basically, the short version is that when he was born he had some tight neck muscles due to the way he was laying inside me and it caused him to prefer to face left ALL THE TIME. This resulted in his head starting to get a flat spot on the left side of the back of his head. This is called plagiocephaly. We tried to fix it with conservative methods first but nothing was helping so we are going the more extreme route and he is now wearing a helmet. This helmet is specifically made for his head and will help round out his head as he grows. He will most likely wear this for 2-3 months. The good news is, it's entirely cosmetic. The bad news is this means insurance doesn't pay for it. We felt it was important to try to round out his head because he's a boy, so it's more difficult to cover up the shape of his head with hair....and the elephant in the room is the fact that he may just not have that much hair like his Daddy.
Well, we got the helmet last week and he's doing really well with it! However, this Momma just could not stare at that big, white dome for months. It had to be decorated! So I picked up some acrylic paint, mod podge sealant, and some decals and got to work... Now he's an adorable little aviator!

He doesn't seem to mind the helmet at all. Which is good because he has to wear it 23hrs a day! |
...beginning the base layer of paint and letting it dry |
...base layer is done. At this point it looks like an old, leather football helmet. |
Now for the decals and to seal it all up |
TOO CUTE! |
