Homeschool pictures

Some pictures from our homeschooling journey... Now that homeschooling takes up so much of my time, there will be lots of homeschooling pictures.

Joseph works on his name every morning.  Is that not the sweetest smile?

His penmanship is really improving (already better than his Daddy's)

We also do calendar time every morning

The color of the week is blue.  The shape of the week is a circle.  So, we made stamps out of lemons and created some art!

Shadow fun! Joseph is learning about light and shadow.  We made a cut-out of Joseph's hand and taped it to a dark piece of paper.  Then, laid the paper out in the sun to make this sun print.

We are learning about our 5 senses.  I created surprise pictures with puffy paint and Joseph is doing crayon rubbings to discover the hidden pictures.  He guessed the pictures ahead of time by feeling the bumpy puffy paint, then used his eyes to discover the picture when they were revealed!

Scarlet has a theme every week for phonics.  Her theme for this lesson is QUEEN!  She is eating it up!

Fingerprint art

Joseph's learning about bar graphs.  We called and polled friends and family to ask about their favorite sport.  He really enjoyed it!

Evelyn's working on a bird watching project.  She has to create a bird feeder and document the kinds of birds she sees.

Lorelai has a fossil dig science project.  She is learning about fossils, dinosaurs, and paleontology.  We created a fossil dig, I buried "artifacts" for her to find.  We made a site grid and she had to slowly excavate the objects and document her findings in a site log.

We are learning about community helpers and our lesson is about police officers today.  Joseph is very into police and made us call him "officer" all day.

Joseph is learning that police keep us safe in many ways.  From bike safety and directing traffic to discovering fingerprints and catching the bad guys!

Another community helper: fire fighters.  Joseph used paint to make flames.

Joseph made a building on fire.  He then created a story, all on his own, to go with it.  He said, "Do you want to know why the building is on fire?  There were some bad guys who kept shooting the building and it caught on fire.  So, the police came and put those guys in jail.  Now, the firemen are on their way to put out the fire!"

Community helper: Dentists.  This is one dirty, yellow tooth and Joseph is cleaning it with white sparkle paint.  He's painting it on with a toothbrush.

Sparkly clean tooth!  The toothfairy would be proud.

Community helper: Doctors.  Joseph is patching up this poor teddy

Fall Festival Fun

Kicking fall off with an annual festival day at a local park.

Now that Joseph is 5 years old, he's very into looking cool.  His new interest is wearing sunglasses...

Our first fall activity.

My sweet pumpkins

Lots of field games and activities

Pumpkin bowling

We participated in a "cake walk".  If you don't know what that is, basically you walk around in a large circle with numbers on a ground.  When the music stops, you land on a number.  If your number is called, you win a cake!!  This boy won a pack of 6 cupcakes for the family.  Lorelai won a caramel pie.

I Pledge Allegiance…

We start every morning with the Pledge of Allegiance...very proud of this boy

Joseph’s birthday party

Joseph had a small backyard party for this 5th birthday, but we celebrated in a BIG way!  We rented a double racer, 20ft water slide.  His decorations and cake were all Ninja themed as that seems to be his obsession for now.  We invited some new friends to celebrate with us but kept it pretty small.  The kids played on the slide for more than 8hrs!  It was a wonderfully fun way to cap off the summer too!
